Do you want a profession that blends research in the lab with interaction with a wide range of industries and academia? Microtrac MRB has an opportunity for an Application Scientist for Surface Area and Porosity analysis by Gas / Vapor Adsorption and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP). This position will be based in Newtown, PA, and, also requires spending time regularly in York, PA. We have been established in the U.S. for more than 40 years and are a reputed world leader in providing analytical instrumentation for particle characterization and extend our portfolio now to characterization of porous solids.

This position will be responsible for carrying out demos, presentations, customer trainings and troubleshooting as requested by the Sales team and management. This position will directly report to the Sales Manager North America of Microtrac and the Global Microtrac MRB Application Centers for surface and pore analysis in Haan, Germany and Osaka, Japan.

Responsibilities:

Provide scientific, technical, and applications support during pre- and post-sales activities

Conduct and present at webinars, and online meetings

· Partner with customers and academic professionals to develop application notes and/or co-author scientific papers

· Schedule and lead demos, and trainings as required

· Conduct experiments in the lab for special applications, market development, and projects for sales opportunities

· Support the sales team by using critical thinking to identify customer needs and to demonstrate the optimal product solutions to meet those needs

· Develop and present sophisticated material to potential customers in an easy-to-understand manner while being able to professionally handle objections and questions

· Help customers in justifying equipment purchase by offering assistance in method development, data generation, preparing reports, and presenting results

· Promote customer satisfaction by providing product and application information, answering inquiries, investigating complaints and taking appropriate action

· Assist in generating sales leads by developing customer relationships and collaborations to facilitate the preparation of materials for technical materials, seminars, scientific meetings and other publications

· Serve as a communication bridge between end-users, sales team, R&D and management being the “voice of the customer”

· Conduct SWOT analysis on competitors and update the sales team on developments

· Working with Microtrac Sales Managers to define market development activities by expanding our knowledge of the competition and marketplace.

· Participate in the product Roadmap development with Product Management in Haan by representing the needs of the North American Market

· Set up, manage, and operate Demo Equipment in the Newtown demo center and lab.

· Represent Microtrac MRB on select compliance and standards committees

· Represent Microtrac MRB at relevant conferences, tradeshows, and external meeting

Qualifications:

· Ph.D. in scientific studies (i.e., Chemistry, Physics, Material Science) preferred.

· 2+ years sales experience and hands-on experience with gas adsorption and Mercury intrusion porosimetry for surface area and pore size analysis preferred.

· An instinct for driving a consultative, fact-based sales process with customers in, Industry, Research and Academia.

· Excellent analytical, organizational, time management, communication and presentation skills are essential, complimented by a solutions-oriented track record.

· Demonstrated written and verbal communication and training skills.

· A high degree of creative ability and initiative, and the ability to operate in an independent environment, while still being a “standout colleague”.

· Proven skills at developing multi-level and multi-functional relationships with a variety of personalities; including customers, field-based and in-house support personnel, and highly motivated sales staff.

· Ability and willingness to travel to customers and partners nationally as well as to Microtrac facilities in Japan and Germany for training and product management workshops.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $86,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
